IZM “Illwerke Centre Montafon” - Vorarlberg, Austria
The Vorarlberger energy service provider illwerke vkw sets new architectural and ecological standards with its new water-power competence centre in Vandans, Montafon (Austria). The IZM, which is 120 m long, 14 m wide and 21 m high, has been designed by architect Hermann Kaufmann in the wood-modular construction system, tried and tested at the LifeCycle Tower by Cree. The building combines classical office architecture and engineering of modern timber constructions.

This unique building serves as the headquarters for an energy provider, impressively blending into the landscape with its 120-meter length. It dominates the lake area and showcases the versatility and aesthetic potential of wood-hybrid construction. The Illwerke Centre, built in 2013, was a significant advancement in innovative building techniques, featuring 2,000 m² floor levels erected in just 7 days. The building also includes a company restaurant and a visitor center, demonstrating various interior design possibilities.
It was the first ecological building of its size in Vorarlberg and remains one of the world's largest office buildings in wood-hybrid construction, certified DGNB/ÖGNI Platinum.
